Forum Sekuriteit helps with transport of lions and tigers from Groot-Marico to Oudtshoorn

From 21 to 23 May Forum Sekuriteit took care of the protection of 12 lions and two tigers from Ubuntu Wildlife Sanctuary when these animals were moved from Groot-Marico to their new home in Oudtshoorn.

This moving operation included a convoy of 23 vehicles and a total of 70 people that took on the long road – it lasted 23 hours from Groot-Marico to Oudtshoorn and a total of 3 600 km were travelled. Forum Sekuriteit offered protection in the air and on ground by riding in the convoy, and using three airplanes and two drones alternatively. The full duration of the operation was 55 hours and came to end late on Sunday afternoon.

According to Llewellynn Hemmens, representative for Forum Sekuriteit, this operation formed part of Forum Sekuriteit’s role to assist communities and the protection of wildlife also plays a role in the defensibility of communities.

Hemmens also expresses Forum Sekuriteit’s thanks to the SAPS that escorted the traffic from Groot-Marico to Oudtshoorn, the AfriForum neighbourhood watches in Rustenburg, Brits, Greater Moot, Centurion, Kempton Park, Vanderbijlpark, Sasolburg, Kroonstad, Welkom and Bloemfontein that helped with the logistic arrangements, regulating the traffic and providing food parcels. The Greater Moot neighbourhood watch also provided support with the transportation of two sick lions to the Old Chapel Animal Clinic for medical treatment.
